Claptrap: Progress report

4
Just a quick progress report with Claptrap. I've already started the build a week ago (sorry no actual progress pics), so far the scale I've chosen for Claptrap isn't all that hard to build. Based on my estimates once built, Claptrap "himself" would be about 12in-14in; including the antennae around 20in. Those are just estimates, since Claptrap's entire body is hovering above his wheel so Pepakura wouldn't be of much help determining his final height.

Either way, the part count and part sizes are manageable and not all that hard to put together. Here's a quick sample of my layout. I'm using 8.5in x 13in velum board paper. That's probably called cardstock for some of you folks?
I'll arrange the layout for A4 format once I'm done with the build. Just a heads up though, I won't be making a step by step (part by part) guide as per my usual. This model is quite simple that it wouldn't require a separate guide aside from the .PDO.

That'll be all for now... next update would likely be the release. Ciao

The Stand: Final

0
The stand is finished, made all 6 stands with different designs and added a little bling on top of it; the part that makes contact with Claptraps wheels. I'll separate each stand in their own respective .PDO file, that way we'll avoid any mistakes in printing the stand that we actually want.

As for Claptrap himself, still haven't finished the unfold, roughly 1/4 of it is finished. I aim to build him to be at least 24in tall, that's from the bottom of his wheels to the tip of the antennae. So far, there are certain parts that look difficult to make due to their small size, especially those small wire fixtures around his arms. I'll try to build those wires first, if they prove to be too hard or flimsy for me... then I may scale the model up just a bit. Not too much. Hopefully.

That would be all for now, will try to get the template finished before the end of my weekend. So far so good!

Claptrap's Stand

0
I'll be adding a nifty little stand for good 'ol Claptrap to stand on. It's textured on all sides with Borderlands 2  stuff. I'll be making 4 different stands representing each of the images above, so you folks would have an actual choice of texture you prefer to print out. Option #3 currently looks like the best winner here, using minimal ink, then  again options #2 and #4 are good too. Then the real deal breaker here is option #1 of course, good 'ol Claptrap giving..... you know.... all the... sandwhiches he has! Get it? Yeah, maybe not. Just watch Claptraps web-series.
This one also looks pretty good, it features all 4 Borderlands 2 characters going up against every creature in Borderlands 2. I'm gonna build this one for sure. It's a good thing I still remember some of Kaizo's tutorial videos... it's been helping me throughout this process of getting back in the game. I owe that dude a lot.

That's about it. Still unfolding and double checking how the build process would go.

Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked

When I received my first PS3 as a graduation gift from my parents, Borderlands GOTY was the very first game I played and finished which included every DLC and the 2nd playthrough. Claptrap, is the most memorable character I've ever encountered in any game and I enjoyed every single bit of his annoying voice.

When I heard Borderlands 2 was in development I was excited to get my hands on the game as soon as it was released. Sadly several months ago, my dorm room was ransacked and my PS3 and other electronic gadgets I owned were stolen. Eventually though, just last Christmas; being the spoiled kid that I am, my parents bought me a new PS3 along with another Borderlands GOTY AND Borderlands 2! (sadly no DLC since they were not aware of it at the time)

Which brings us to this project of mine, my very own Interplanetary Ninja Assassin CL4P-TP! I searched for a method that could allow me to get a hold of Claptrap, but I couldn't quite get it to work. So instead through the power of Googling, found myself a readily available 3D model online. Worked with the model for the past couple of days, using various references online to get the model as accurate as possible. In the process I noticed subtle differences from the actual in game Claptrap and the cut-scenes for him as well. I won't go so much into detail about it, but here's an example:
The above image came from the Borderlands Claptrap web-series. Comparing that footage along with the actual in game Claptrap model for Borderlands and Borderlands 2, there's a huge difference. Obviously, went ahead and used the web-series as my reference and...... taaaadaaaa!
I gotta admit that I was having serious issues trying to figure out Metasequoia and Sketchup, it's been such a long time now since I handled those programs I literally had no idea what I was doing. I'll most likely be able to finish the template over the weekend and start on the build this coming week.

That would be all for now. I need to practice building some small models before I tackle this head-on.

OMG! UPDATE 2013!!!!

6
I'm alive!!!!!

Damn... lookit lookit.... first updated post since.. like forever! Ahem....

It's been awhile huh? Lots of things has changed last time I was around... some folks I used to work with are long gone, but some are still doing incredibly well! Kudos to you folks, I envy you people. Also, Blogger sure has changed last time I checked.... how come 2 years ago you folks didn't do this?! I was havin'  a pretty hard time trying to figure out this HTML thing. Jeez... thank you, makes this whole "2013 comeback" thing a whole lot easier!

Well, it's been long overdue... I mean, the projects I had lined up. Sadly those are all long gone... long story, head over to my DA page, which I recently just updated as well, if you want to know. But yes, they're all gone, each and every single one of them. I do have a lot of free time  coming along, so that's a bit of good news. (bad news was probably the fact that I'm back... hahahahaha)

Anyway, here; something I may have time to build once I'm done messing around with it. Dead give away I'm sure.

That would be all, hopefully, I'll be able to stick around for a while longer to actually finish this. If not... then, guess I'm just gonna dig myself a new grave. (not really funny.... but it sounded funny)

Just so you know....

0

.... that I'm still alive and kicking!

So, it's Friday, the start of a long weekend for me since we all know what Monday is all about... and I got myself some free time over the past couple of weeks to do a little project of my own.

That's little 'ol Pooh Bear sittin' between Kitty Mario and Luigi. I got him in my side projects since last year, but things just got busy with me and real life and of course my last year in high school that I didn't really have the time to deal with papercraft and my other hobbies.

I gotta admit, I was surprised that I still have the capacity to work with my papercraft tools and programs after staying "papercraft sober" for the past few months and I'm quite happy with the end result. As always though, I didn't testbuild anything... I just finished the layout, printed them out and started cutting and gluing things up.

Anyway, sadly Pooh Bear won't be released at all. I'm pretty sure there are a few folks out there who have the time and the skills to work on a more release-able model of Pooh Bear.

So just think of this as a sign that I'll be "coming back" soon... well, after I finish up with high school and stuff.

For now, it's just gonna be a warm "hello" and "I'll see you soon" kind of greeting. Byeee!

Update!!!!

3
Couldn't get an appropriate image for this post other than this old picture of my shelf, which I posted on my DA.

Figured that this post would best be displayed here on the main blog rather on the Assembly Line side of things since it's quite important compared to the usual gibberish.

As most of you may have noticed by now, I was MIA for quite sometime (if you didn't notice, then that's good). A rather urgent and important family matter came up (I'd rather not discuss it here) and I had to stray away from papercrafting for the past, I dunno... 2-3 weeks now?

I even missed the whole 1 yr anniversary of Leblanc's release and of the blog too, which of course was the release date I hoped for Yuffie.

So as far as my KH2/FF7:AC Yuffie Kisaragi project goes, she's half built sitting on my desk and won't be completed anytime soon seeing as the new school year is practically starting already.

Now for the rest of my projects, I AM NOT DROPPING THEM from the project list. I will eventually finish them all, it'll take some time but I will finish them.

So, again.... all my projects will experience quite a huge delay in getting released.

Well, I suppose that's all for now, there really isn't anything else I can do at the moment than just make this update.

ps: Sorry, but I don't have an updated picture of my papercraft shelf, so the old one would have to do for now.

KH: The Battleship Release

5
The Battleship

Well, finally finished this project. I could have gotten this done sooner, but sadly procrastination and the urge to cool myself off in the pool was too much to bare over the heat of the summer.

Anyway, this was an easy build, fiddly parts are the skull and the small parts that go into making the wheel. Other than that, everything else was smooth sailing! (ehe, get it... smooth sailing... coz, it's a ship.. and it has a sail...)

Because of the success of this model, I added a new category into my Media Fire folder, a Kingdom Hearts: Heartless folder. This simply means that I'm going to build other Heartless models in the future.

So that's that... time to start working on another project before my summer vacations ends.... Good luck to anyone who's willing to build The Battleship!

Tifa Lockhart Release

10
Tifa Lockhart

Tifa has been a WIP for nearly the past 7 months now. Initially, Tifa was meant to be released back in July 2009, however due to unforeseen issues with her neck I had to put the project on hold till I fix the neck and re-build the model.

I'd like to say it's because of school work that delayed the release, but really it's the lack of interest to complete and finalize the template and Reference Manual.

Anyway, I finished whatever needs to get done and now it's time for the release. So you people, who's been pestering me about Tifa can now "rejoice" because she's here. Now go bother someone else, yeh?

These two finally got together....

Also: I hope to see Tifa have the same success as Cloud;

Happy Moogle New Year!

6
A Happy New Year to you all, kupo!

Well, here's a proper send off to 2009 and a good way to start off the new year!

Currently staying over at my grandparents for the holidays to celebrate Christmas and New Year with the entire family. We don't always do this, so, it's rather special having the entire family together at my Mom's parents home. (not to mention it's easier for me to cash in with aunts and uncles who I haven't seen in a while! ahahaha)

Anyway.... I had these models completed for a few weeks now, but I've delayed the release long enough mainly because I was too busy with school work to even give time to finalize the templates and finish up on the Reference Manuals. It's not all that hard to do, but I can't concentrate on my work knowing that I have 6 school projects and finals to deal with!

So, here they are:
Horne

Note: There were issues with the Reference Manual for Horne, so refer to Sorbet's Reference Manual instead if things are a bit difficult to understand.

Hurdy

Montblanc

Sorbet

That's it! All 6 members of the Moogle Family from Final Fantasy XII has been pepakurized, finally finished this project. And now... a group pic, of every single one of them together! (told yah I would eventually have everyone)

My entire FFXII Moogle Family and Momo would like to greet everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Moogle-Palooza: Gurdy

4

Here's Gurdy!

Well, here's the 2nd Moogle out of the 6 proposed members of the Moogle Family that I've built so far. Gurdy turned out quite well, even though I ran through a bunch of trouble while trying to get her posed right using the reference pic I had of her. Once again though, I have to apologize for the poor printing quality. I haven't saved up enough to buy new ink carts for the HP printer, hopefully I'll save up enough by next week.

Finally took a picture of how to assemble the pom-pom without me trying to explain how the heck it's supposed to be made. Well, even though it's self explanatory, I've gotten quite a few comments from individuals complaining about it... so there you go.

It's quite tough getting a picture of Gurdy hovering.... she tends to twirl around before I get a decent picture of her. Well, she is after all the only Moogle from FFXII that's actually using her wings.

Well, guess that's just about it... nothing more for me to say than to wish you good luck!

Final Fantasy XII Gurdy

I'll eventually get the entire Moogle Family and Momo together!

Moogle-Palooza: Nono

1

Well, finally got my MediaFire folder back online and I can release this little fellow! Thanks to the folks at MF of course!

So anyway, you guys voted for Nono, so Nono is all yours. Before you guys wonder what those streaks are in the model, those were caused by the Canon printer I was using. Unfortunately my HP printer ran outta ink yet again, so I had to settle with the old bubble jet printer. So there's a definite lack in printing quality, well either that or I don't get to print anything at all. Meh.

Tried something slightly different with this release, didn't include a "Lined" .PDF. My models are all meant to be "Lineless" and built smoothly. The Reference Manual also changed slightly, but it still serves as reference only. You can freely choose a way that's comfortable for you to build Nono. Oh, and yes I know the er.. spanner(?), is pointing away from Nono, that's because I didn't fold the palm and the wrist to get it to tilt towards Nono. It still works, so that's fine with me.

Gurdy and Sorbet are currently in the works, so expect another release in the next few days.

Anyway, that's just about it... knock yourselves out. Good luck!

Moogle-Palooza: Momo

6

Well, you guessed it! Exams are pretty much over, got home before lunch and just laid back relaxed for the first time since last week. It'll be another 2 mons or so before finals again, so I have until then to slack off and care less about anything else. Let alone studying... hahaha!

I also took the time today to create a 2nd blog, called Assembly Line. Rather than posting here every time I have something new to play around with and making a mess of the place, the new blog would simply serve as my update page. So, if you're slightly interested in seeing some WIP models, that's a place to go. Paper and Glue will now be, my release page.

Having exams over and done with is not the only reason why I'm celebrating today. Here's why:

When I started this blog and made my first release, being LeBlanc, I thought no one would care about my models, but that right there... shows that at least there are some individuals taking their time to actually look at my models and to even download them. It wouldn't bother me if only 1% of those who downloaded the models would actually build them. That's alright, it's still gratifying either way.

So, to celebrate 6,000+ downloads of the "crap" that I've been releasing, here's a little somethin special for y'all (which also makes it my 5th release to date):
My first Moogle, from Final Fantasy XII. There's not much to pose on him other than tilt his head to the side, move his arms a bit... and that's it. It's the "cleanup" process that was the real pain in the butt. Eventually got it the way I wanted him to look like and just started building like crazy this morning.

So, as for the scale.... yeah, he's going to be the base for all the Moogles that I do intend to build. Kaizo suggested that I try the entire Moogle Family from FFXII, and that actually interested me quite a bit, instead of building just 1 Moogle. Building them all would take up quite some space, so I had to try to scale him smaller than Illidan. This was a test for me, and I believe I succeeded in doing so.

Anyway, enough of the chatter... you're here for the model not my blabbering!

FFXII Moogle

So, enjoy everyone... and once more thanks for downloading my stuff! Good luck!

Oh, btw... here's my own personal version of the Moogle... I'm calling him Momo. Sure, he has a cute name, but he makes up for it with the gear he's carrying!

Illidan Stormrage

8
"What manner of fool dares stand before Illidan Stormrage?!"

I'd say this is a very successful first attempt at building my own Warcraft 3 model. Illidan definitely just opened the doors for me to continue this new long term project of mine. I'm planning on building every unit and critter available in the game and make some sort of diorama eventually. Gotta thank Barbarian and his Pally model from WoW for the inspiration to this new project.

This also gave me the opportunity to try out using an actual background to take pictures from for my models, rather than you seeing the kitchen in the background all the time. It's not exactly perfect, but hey, it does the job that it's meant to do.

Well, anyway here you go. Good luck to anyone who decides to build Illidan Stormrage.

Tonberry Release

8
Picture above has the dimmer switch set to the brightest.

Tonberry makes an appearance! Finally finished up on Ton. Took me longer than expected, well since I was working on Tifa at the same time, so yeah... still took me awhile to finish this. Ton was not meant to be released in the first place, therefore it lacks a Reference Manual. So you have to build this on your own without something to guide you aside from the .PDO. Funny how you can use Ton during Halloween in place of a Jack-O-Lantern.

This is as small as Ton can get, since the scale is based on the smallest bulb available to me that works with a dimmer switch. The scale may not work for you, that's why I was hesitant to release this model in the first place. Those bright LED's aren't easy for me to find, so you might get lucky and use a LED instead and use a USB as it's power source. Search through google for "USB Powered LED" there are various sites around that could help you with that. You can still build the other lamp, and use the fake flames instead if you wish.

Anyway, if you do decide to build Ton, then goodluck to you and don't forget to turn off the lightbulb!

Tonberry

Sidenote: Tifa is on her way, hopefully I'll be able to finish up on the build before the month ends... well, more or less anyway.
edit: yah know what.... that was a lame entry, using "entrance" rather than "appearance" LOL *electrocutes self*

Cloud Strife Release

17
Here he is folks! I would've released Cloud sooner, but coz of all the bad weather lately I got sick... anyway I think this is a good way to start the new school year and to say farewell to my well spent summer vacation. As with my LeBlanc release this model is HUGE, not counting Cloud... just the Ink Buster Sword *laughs*. This marks my 2nd release, and my ongoing "Designer Tributes" models, why call it that, this time, Cloud is a tribute to, not 1, not 2 but 3 individuals.

Well here's some clues; they are all MALE, all have a papercraft development blog and at one point made their own rendition of Cloud. Guessed who they are already? No? Oh c'mon, surely you can.

Oh what the heck... this Cloud model is a tribute to Kaizo (Shinra Soldier Cloud Strife), Ninjatoes (Kingdom Hearts Cloud Strife) and SD-Sacha (Final Fantasy 7 Cloud Strife). Obviously, there's still alot of room for improvement in my model, but I'm learning, still, not bad for my 2nd attempt at modeling eh?

Anyway, this release includes 2 PDO files (a PDO for Pose A including an optional arm piece to build Pose B and an unfolded reference PDO for Pose B, just so you know how he's supposed to look like), a Lined and Lineless PDF file, a Reference Manual with pictures and tips on how to build Cloud, finally an obligatory ReadMe! file. I highly recommend printing from the PDF files since the PDO has this white lines to help folding.

Well, guess that's all for now, got some homework to do and other school related gibberish. I'll try to finish up on my other projects as fast as I possibly can, given that I can only work on them during the weekends, can't have Cloud left all alone by himself now can I? *sigh, I miss summer already*

Enjoy!
Kingdom Hearts 2 Cloud Strife

PS: Oh yah, feel free to troll..... I don't give a damn about trolls, y'all are ugly and stinky trolls! So bring it on, troll-ies!!!

FFX-2 LeBlanc Release!

6
Finally, after what seems like forever for me to release LeBlanc, my Queen of Hearts, today's the day folks! Took me at most 2 months to get this model released, from idea to the finished model.

So this release marks a first, therefore this is a homage to Kaizo and Lady Luck, both of which are the main reasons why I took up PaperCrafting in the first place.

I didn't make a step by step instruction for this, since I decided to include the .PDO, also this is a very straightforward build, simply follow the part numbers and my included Reference Manual and you'll be ok.

Included in this release would be a Lined and Lineless PDF, a .PDO file as general instructions, and a Reference Manual that would have several pictures of the build and some of my tips to make the build easier.

So, anyway, to the handful of individuals who are crazy enough to tackle this model, good luck, you're gonna need it!

Once again, thanks Kaizo for being an outstanding mentor!

ps: If you wish to share the model, link to the release page instead of directly to the actual file. Thanks!

Edit: Included the link to the font I'll be using from now on, courtesy of Dafont.com. So if y'all really wish to print from the .PDO, then get the font. It's FREE!
